Matthew Coleman, Where Water Shapes the Forest (LANDSCAPE 2026)

These four photographs were created within Tasmania’s cool temperate rainforests at Bastion Cascades and Quails Falls. I wanted this portfolio to show more than the waterfalls themselves—to capture how water shapes, nourishes and connects these ancient environments. It moves quietly between moss-covered boulders and fallen timber before gathering strength and spilling through the forest in countless layers. I travelled to Tasmania dreaming of finding scenes like these, but standing among them was more powerful than I had imagined. The air was cold and wet, the forest felt almost untouched, and every surface appeared alive. Each photograph reveals a different character within this landscape, from intimate cascades hidden beneath the canopy to the greater power and scale of the falls. Together, these images represent what draws me to landscape photography: exploring wild, less-travelled places and experiencing that overwhelming sense of wonder that comes from being completely immersed in nature.
