Aditya Joshi, Unclaimed Queensland (TRAVEL 2026)

I am presenting these four exposures from my ongoing long-term photographic study that began in 2025 called “Unclaimed Queensland”. In this series no narrative is imposed- there are only the subjects within the frame, each existing on its own terms. Isolated, uncompromising and stripped of context, they assert their presence without distraction. The photographs are held together by the particular force unique to Queensland Australia that I call ‘Queensland Light’, and ask the viewer to step inside the frame and feel its distinctive clarity infuse these moments with a subtle energy. Rather than narrating, the images immerse. They encourage contemplation and curiosity, offering a rendition of Queensland far removed from stereotypical beaches, tropical escapes, sweeping coastlines and postcard sunshine. Instead, this series portrays places, objects, people and ordinarily passing scenes that are alive with texture and character, yet often remain unnoticed. I am claiming these “unclaimed” fragments one exposure at a time, building a portrait of Queensland- the place I call home for anyone willing to look.
