Benjamin Hams, The Morning Catch (TRAVEL 2026)

Negombo Fish Market, Sri Lanka, is already alive long before most of the city wakes. Fishermen return with the morning’s catch, fish are hauled from boats, sorted, cleaned and prepared while buyers and workers move through the chaos. I spent the morning walking through the market with my camera, photographing the people whose work keeps it moving. Rather than focusing only on the spectacle of the market, I wanted to capture the quieter moments between the work as well like the brief pauses, interactions and faces that can easily disappear amongst the noise and activity. This series is a glimpse into an ordinary morning at Negombo Fish Market and the people behind it.
