Donald Chin, The Living Spirit of Fujian Tulou (TRAVEL 2025)

Nestled in the mountains of Fujian, the Tulou stand as monumental earthen dwellings built by the Hakka people centuries ago. These circular fortresses, once home to entire clans, embody resilience, community, and ingenuity, earning recognition as UNESCO World Heritage sites. Today, their courtyards and landscapes come alive with tradition. The dragon dance winds across rivers, through mist and stone, its fiery body carried by rhythm and devotion. Drums thunder, smoke swirls, and laughter fills the air. As night falls, fireworks blaze above the Tulou, celebrating not only ancestral heritage but also the enduring spirit of a living, united culture.
