Not all salt lakes are pink as evidenced by this vibrant green small lake in the Victorian Mallee. Salt lakes change color due to varying amounts of salt, sunlight and tiny organisms that live in the water. These organisms are some of the toughest living things in the world and survive in extreme conditions. Their pigments change with the weather conditions exhibiting a wide variety of vibrant colours that can change from day to day.
