Gabrielle Snell, The False Line (ANIMAL & NATURE 2026)

This series is a visual exploration of the Bolivian salt flats and high altitude lagoons, focusing on the incredible stillness and natural geometry of the landscape. By capturing the sharp contrast between the rugged, textured mountains and the glass like water, the collection looks at how a physical place can create a powerful sense of quiet and space. The heart of this work lies in the reflections. The water in these lagoons acts as a perfect mirror, duplicating the mountains, sky, and wildlife until the true horizon disappears. This symmetry creates the false line, an intentional confusion between what is solid earth and what is just a reflection, making the vast desert feel both massive and completely weightless. When viewed as a whole, from the raw texture of the volcanic peaks to the solitary movement of birds across the water, the series functions as a meditation on isolation and balance. It is an invitation to slow down, appreciate the immense scale of the natural world, and find calm in the open spaces where the earth meets the sky. The photographs are presented as a continuous series intended to be viewed sequentially from left to right, numbered one through four.
