Robert Wengritzky, The Ancient Predator (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)
This portfolio explores the raw power, presence, and detail of the saltwater crocodile — an apex predator that has remained virtually unchanged for millions of years. Each frame captures a different facet of its dominance: the stealthy silhouette cutting through water, the hypnotic detail of its patterned eye, the explosive surge as it breaks the surface, and the jagged geometry of teeth built for survival. Together, these images reveal not only the menace of the crocodile but also its intricate beauty — the textures, patterns, and primal energy of an animal perfectly adapted to both patience and violence. By isolating detail and shifting between monochrome and colour, the series balances menace with artistry, showing the crocodile as both subject of fear and subject of fascination.
