Kat Morrisby, Soft fascination (BLACK & WHITE 2025)

Being mesmerised by moving water while crouched over the banks of a river is a precarious endeavour. Especially in lutruwita Tasmania. It’s steep. It’s wet. It’s slippery. There’s moss. And sticks. And leeches. The water runs fast, then slow, forms ripples and bubbles and vortexes. The light dances, too. It flickers through the canopy, reflects on the surface, refracts through the water. It’s all so impossible to grab hold of! But one can try. This series was shot at the Loddon River, deep in our Franklin-Gordon Wild River National Park. ’Soft fascination’, by the way, allows our squirrel brains to ease; to focus, without effort, on natural wonders like moving water and flickering fire. Our minds can settle and rest as we wallow in scenery that is soothing yet ever-changing.
