Brian Anderson, Scenes from Svalbard (TRAVEL 2025)

High above the Arctic circle, Svalbard is isolated, with rugged beauty and signs of desolation. Beyond the glaciers such as Samarenbreen, there is little natural colour beyond the occasional wildflower on the stony beaches. The ship wreck on Skansbukta shows the inhospitable nature of the environment, an observation backed up by the abandoned coal mine and supporting town at Pyramiden.
