Keith Horton, Satin Bowerbirds (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)

Male Satin bowerbirds (like the dark blue bird in these photos) build specialised stick structures, called bowers, and they decorate the area with blue and sometimes yellow objects. These objects may be natural, but in urban settings are more often plastic. Females (like the other bird in these photos) visit these bowers, and based on their inspections choose which male they will mate with. Photographed at the University of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia.
