Angela Farnsworth, Risky Business (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)
A male Red-crested Pochard's instinct is to ensure the gene line is continued and knows there is a short window to mate and for the female to raise the next clutch of chicks. The sun is low in the sky highlighting the fear on the female's face as the male grabs hold of her and pushes her head under the water sometimes resulting in death if she cannot get back to the surface to get air. It is frantic and desperate as she tries to get away which she does and not sure if the male achieved his ultimate goal.
