Jason Keeler, Reduction Burn (LANDSCAPE 2025)

Dramatic scenes beside our national highway as a burn reduces fuel loading, minimising the catastrophic risk when tinder dry in the summer months, giving both flora and fauna a greater chance of survival. Annually and traditionally cumulatively large areas are burnt off around Australia during cooler months and after rain, promoting new growth and allowing some species of plants to germinate after the fires. The highway setting allowed a unique opportunity to watch and observe as traffic rolled by into the darkness as the slow moving fire ebbed its way along the roadside, with the added bonus of a framed perspective from within a culvert underneath the road.
