Linda Waters, Quartering (ANIMAL & NATURE 2026)

A methodical forager, a Swamp Harrier sweeps over the wetlands in search of small mammals or waterbirds. The technique used is known as 'quartering' where the bird flies in a pattern to flush out potential prey, maximising detection. Normally they hunt singly, but on this morning there were two Swamp Harriers quartering apart and low to the ground.
