Ngaire Hart, Macquarie Island Wildlife (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)

Macquarie Island is the only island where there are three types of fur seal: Antarctic, Sub-antartic and Fur seals. It is owned by Australia and I had the chance to connect with nature in a remote and unspoiled environment. It is renound for large breeding colonies of penguins and seals. The first photo is of a King Penguin colony they had eggs on their feet, tightly packed together. Second shot is a small Royal Penguin with a yellow slick on its head, that was returning from fishing. Third photo the Southern Sea Elephant Sea needs lots of space as it can weigh up to 4000kgs. Fourth photo are two juvenile seals I watched vigoriously play fighting, these were bloody. All of a sudden they stop and flop onto the beach. Their expressive eyes capture your heart. The beach was a noisy place of seals and penguins going about their daily business.
