Karl Reifenstein, Impermanence (TRAVEL 2025)

The concept of impermanence (mujō) is central in Japanese Buddhism. It states that life is in a constant state of change, temporariness, and transience. These four images attempt to capture that sense of impermanence you can feel in Japan, where ancient castles and shrines stand among modern concrete towers, and where the first cherry blossoms of Spring fall beside cold granite grave markers.

Images have been resized for web display, which may cause some loss of image quality. Note: Original high-resolution images are used for judging.
