Vanessa Haines, Hidden not Forgotten (LANDSCAPE 2025)

These photographs weren't what I was after when I went to the Dolomites in Italy, in fact when I arrived and found out I came at the worst time of the year, when it was still off season for the chair lifts were closed and the weather was terrible, with nothing but clouds and rain in sight. To say I was disappointed was an understatement, I was really looking forward to seeing the amazing mountains and beautiful nature around me instead all I could see was clouds were mountains were meant to be. But despite my disappointment I decided I needed to come up with a new way to look at my situation, I decided this was the perfect opportunity to test my creativity and photography skills, and try to make the best out of a bad situation and to still photograph the scenery around me even if they're isn't much to see. And I was very surprised with the results, looking back I am glad I went when I did because it challenged me to think about what I was photographing and to take my time. Now I have a beautiful series of the dolomites that many may not have and I am grateful for the experience
