Kerryn Buckley, Giants Among Us (TRAVEL 2026)

Each year, icebergs carve from Greenland's fast moving glaciers and past the communities of the northern tip of Newfoundland and Labrador, temporarily transforming the coastal landscape. Their scale can be difficult to comprehend until they appear beside a lighthouse or people standing on the shore. I photographed these passing giants from land, sea and air, looking for the different ways they reveal themselves: illuminated by evening light, towering above the horizon, framed against signs of human habitation, and exposing unexpected colour beneath the water. Together, the images portray not simply the icebergs themselves, but the experience of encountering them—a fleeting meeting between people, landscape and ancient ice.
