Rowan Dear, Giant Cuttlefish-The Final Season (ANIMAL & NATURE 2026)

We are lucky in Australia to have some incredible wildlife. I would argue that the annual Giant Cuttlefish mating season, rivals any animal event on the planet. To witness hundreds of one species, mating, fighting, eating, laying eggs, being predated upon, all in 1 hour potentially and so easily accessible is truly unique. Unfortunately, the devastating algae bloom in South Australia robbed thousands of people of the opportunity to see them this year, as where once you could see tens of thousands of Cuttlefish, this year they were recording less than 10. I hope they can recover quickly, but I really don’t know what the future holds for one of earths great animal gatherings
