Craig Ford, Floating Torii Gates of Japan (TRAVEL 2026)

A torii is a traditional Japanese gate most commonly found at the entrance of or within a Shinto shrine, where it symbolically marks the transition from the ordinary world to the sacred or divine. The architectural design of these beautiful structures blends seamlessly with the varied natural water landscapes found throughout Japan. In the right conditions, the torii gates can appear as if they are floating above the surface of the water, adding further to their mystical appeal.
