Samara Achermann, Fleeting Stripes (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)

I spent a day exploring Dryandra Woodlands in Western Australia, and saw this small, young numbat stepping out of its burrow into the sunlight, sunbathing and looking for termites to eat. I sat in a bush, far away from the burrow with my zoom lens, so I didn't disturb it. I spent a short time photographing it and watching in awe, before leaving it be as it went back into the burrow. It was the first time I'd seen this endangered species, and it was a moment I won't forget.
