Judith Breedon, Exploring Pre-Cambrian Australia (LANDSCAPE 2025)
In 2024, we spent seven months exploring Central and Northwest Australia. From the Flinders Ranges in South Australia; Uluru and the West MacDonnell Ranges in the Northern Territory to Karijini National Park in Western Australia. The geologic formations I have captured tell the story from the beginning of time. A time before first life, when chemosynthesis gave rise to the release of the first molecules of oxygen, which were then trapped as red/brown ferrous oxides in the banded iron and sedimentary formations we see almost 400 million years later. Through movement of the tectonic plates, we can marvel at the faults and folds created over hundreds of thousands of years as the rocks reveal their history.
