Benjamin Hams, Enduring Nature (LANDSCAPE 2025)
Have you ever stood outside in a dust storm? It’s not a pleasant experience. The air thickens, the world disappears, and yet, within the chaos, there’s beauty. At the start of the year, I braved the elements to capture that beauty. I ventured to the township of Terowie, which looked all but abandoned beneath the haze of dust. But it wasn’t until I left town that the reality of the storm set in. With the dust came drought, one of the worst in history. The farmers were suffering, their livestock struggling, and the ground beneath my feet was cracked and lifeless. Life out here was hard, stripped back to survival. These images capture that moment, a landscape caught between endurance and collapse, where even in despair, there’s resilience and grace in the dust.
