NOLA VICKERY, EGYPT - WHERE HAGGLING IS KING! (TRAVEL 2025)
The chaotic El Ataba Street Markets in Cairo are amongst the largest in the Middle East. Curious tourists can immerse themselves in the essence of just how Egyptians shop. There is an overwhelming sense of ‘life’ here. Haggling is encouraged and enriches the experience. You may decide to select a book to support the economy - just be careful not to dislodge the sewing machine! Every tourist site has its share of roving hawkers - desperate to sell a myriad of scarves, headgear, bookmarks and jewellery at a mutually-agreed-to price. Camel rides are plentiful - but some consider this to be either unethical or too physically demanding! A good option is to give the handler payment in exchange for a couple of photos. All money is welcomed with a grateful smile!
