Robert Anderson, Eastern Ospreys in Action (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)

Ospreys are spectacular raptors, highly specialised hunters and one of my favourite photographic subjects. They typically eat fish, caught by diving into rivers, estuaries and the ocean. They dive and fly very quickly. It is challenging to capture good quality photographs. Lighting is important, as with any photograph, but tide and personal safety are important too as locations can be difficult to access. Being able to approach a perching or feeding osprey takes patience and careful observations of the bird in order to gain its trust. Watching local conditions for rising tide and waves is another concern. These four photographs have each been taken on different visits to the same area, spanning March 2024 to January 2025.
