Ngaire Hart, DMZ (Korean Demilitarized Zone) (BLACK & WHITE 2025)

Nowhere is the tension between North and South Korea more palapable than in no-man's-land on each side of the 38th parallel. The Korean War went from 1950 - 1953. Today there still is a 150 mile electric fence along Han and Imjin Rivers which are heavily fortified with wire, camera's and guard towers, no-one can use that section of river. The first two photos were taken on South Korean DMZ area which show barbed wire and the other is ribbon with peace messages on them, after going on a gondla and walking up the hill. We then went to Odusan Unification Observatory where binoculars let us look into North Korea. It was a very hazy day and I could hear the North Korean children playing at their school. I looked at the South Korean flag towards North Korea. Last photo is a reminder that peace is fragile as I glanced through the barbed wire onto the mud flats near North Korea.
