Ngaire Hart, Campbell Island Cliffs (LANDSCAPE 2025)
Campbell Island is part of UNESCO World Heritage group of Islands, in Subantartica, in the Southern Ocean. The rusty cliffs are due to oxidation of iron rich minerals. Having constant exposure on the cliffs, to the elements accelerates the weathering and erosion of the rocks, releasing more iron rich minerals and thus a more rusty appearance. Campbell Island is the eroded remains of a shield volcano. Having a wet, cold climate with 325 days of rain in the form of dense fog, rain, sleet and snow. On the West Coast are long unbroken lines of high steep cliffs. Its rugged peaks form unparalled beauty.
