As I framed the scene, my eyes were drawn to the calf pressed close beneath its mother. Her chained leg was unavoidable, yet what lingered with me was the contrast — the calf’s smallness, its trust, its search for safety. In that moment, I saw both tenderness and the weight of confinement.
