Adrian Smarrelli, Berlin City Life (CREATIVE 2026)

The Oberbaumbrücke originally was a wooden drawbridge from the 1700s to serve as a checkpoint for goods entering the city. Now a 154-meter-long red brick bridge blending neo-Gothic sandstone towers with a steel frame that spans the Spree River with seven arches between Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain. Restoration began in 1992 to repair the war damage from World War II and decades of neglect. It was restored by 1995 to symbolize Berlin’s reunification following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.
