Linda Shepherd, Antarctic Wildlife (ANIMAL & NATURE 2025)

Antarctica is not just about Penguins. Despite them being cute and funny, there are other animals that live in and around Antarctica. Watching the Humpback whales feeding, and the Arctic terns enjoying the overflow, is mesmerising. We watched them for at least an hour in a zodiac. The seals were exquisite and spent most of their time lazing on icebergs, where we were able to glide past in time to catch a quick crowd check or yawn, showing their razor sharp teeth. And then there are the penguins, nesting in early January and pointing skywards as they sent out a warning call, mimicking the iceberg in the background. It is a nature lover's paradise to be in this unspoilt location to watch the wildlife go about their daily activities without really worrying about those funny creatures in the big black iceberg (also known as a zodiac)
