Laura Symes, A River for Thought (LANDSCAPE 2025)
The Murray River is a place I return to often — not just to photograph, but to pause, reflect, and let the passing water slow my thoughts. This series captures a quiet evening along its banks, where the smallest details — gently moving reeds, a distant pelican, the shadow of a boat — held me still as the colour show of dusk unfolded. Each image marks a step in that unfolding: from the intimacy of dirt and grass to the wide breath of the river at twilight. Bound together by soft tones, gentle light and a calm presence, these photographs speak not only of place, but of presence — of watching carefully and feeling held by what’s quietly moving around us.
