Michelle Bowen, A Regal Moment (ANIMAL & NATURE 2026)

On the windswept shores of Macquarie Island, a king penguin steps into the moment. With each lift and sweep of his flippers, he seems to conduct the small colony gathered around him—a dramatic display set against difficult light, salt air, and an unforgiving subantarctic landscape. It was humbling to witness the animated poise of the performer and the attentive colony, transform a simple wing-flap into an image of majesty, character, and wild island theatre.
